Sink or Swim?

Sink or Swim?

It's Unlikely You'll Ever Truly Fail

So often we're told it's "sink or swim".

The idea that you're either going to make it, or fail trying.

There's no in between.

But now more than ever it's just "swim".

Yes, you can definitely fail.

But rarely is the failure fatal anymore.

Rarely is it impossible to bounce back from.

It's very, very unlikely that you will lose absolutely everything, especially not your life.

And to make it easier, rarely is it even just "swim" anymore.

We don't have to give up everything to take a chance.

Often we can dip a toe in the water and see if it's to our liking.

We can even do it as we continue to do other things.

We've become so focused on the end result and the overnight success, that we've failed to take notice that this often comes after years of hard work.

Slowly building a reputation over time.

Trying something new while maintaining other, more reliable things.

Sure, you can take the "sink or swim" mindset into something new, using it as fuel to drive you.

But just don't use it as an excuse to not try at all.

Until next time,

Marco
